How did John Jay meet his death?
John Jay who believed in liberty and the establishment of independence greatly served this country throughout his life. When he retired in 1801, John Jay was well-off with $ 4,000 pension per year. He spend his remaining life in Bedford, New York. In 1825, he suffered a stroke and had difficulty expressing himself. In 1829, his health was diminishing John Jay prepared his will. He thanked God for blessing him with excellent parents, virtuous wife and worthy children. He thanked God for protecting him and helping him to do his services to his country. In his will, his family give $200 to any one poor deserving widow or orphan of this town. At the time of his death, he was a humble man and continued to thank God for his good life. On May 17,1829 John Jay died peacefully around his children.
